Canadian Spring Bear hunts in Quebec
Due to increasing demand and interest in Spring Bear Hunting, The
Oxbow Lodge now offers spring bear hunting during the month of May and
June. We are expanding our business into Canada and in conjunction
with Don Helstrom and Turnpike Ridge Outfitters we offer spring bear
hunts in four separate areas in Quebec's cote nord (north side).
The Cote Nord has long been known for its speckled trout fishing,
rough and beautiful mountains and un tapped bear resources. Quebec's
harvest format of one bear per 50 square kilometers keeps success
rates at a high level and insures many above average sized bear. Each
area will be hunted one week only with an average of three active
baits per hunter. We follow the same time proven methods for baiting
and hunting bears that have been proven at our facilities in Maine.
We conduct all of our bait hunting in the evenings, however our
territory is adjacent to power lines so many of our hunters choose to
spot and stalk hunt for bear in the morning. From 2000 to 2008
combined success was 90% on harvested bears and 96% who took at least
one shot. ATV's are permitted and we encourage anyone to bring them
for transportation to fishing lakes and hunting areas.
Fishing is available and is among the finest in North America. Species
of fish available are Brook Trout (Speckled Trout), Northern Pike,
Lake Trout and Red Trout (which is a cross between an Arctic Char and
a Brook Trout). Fishing guides are available upon request.
Camps are within easy driving to Forestville which has restaurants,
bars, sporting store, hotels and grocery stores
